KATHMANDU: A U.S. national was allegedly gang raped in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu on June 14, police revealed Sunday. The victim was reportedly raped at the Global Hotel in Thamel, located in Kathmandu’s tourism hub. She filed a charge sheet against the accused on June 15. The woman in her 40s was in Nepal on a business visa and was in a relationship with a Nepali national supposedly also involved in the rape case. “The couple booked a room in Thamel and had a couple of drinks. According to victim’s statement, she was left alone in her room unconscious and was raped during the night,” SSP Hemant Bahadur Paal, spokesperson at the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Office (MPCO), told Xinhua on Sunday. Two men have already been arrested in relation to the crime. Both suspects have denied the charges. Paal said that investigations as well as medical tests are still ongoing. “It is very rare in Nepal to have cases of single or gang rapes where foreign victims are involved. We decided to keep the accident silent because of the gravity of the circumstances,” Inspector Chhiring Kippa Lama, chief of Tourist Police Unit, told Xinhua. (Xinhua)
